PBS @ LMS: Cardinal Pride

PBS stands for "Positive Behavior Support". It's how we encourage positive behavior throughout the school to create the best educational atmosphere possible.

LMS has established three core behavior values: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. The PBS team, with input from the entire staff used these core values to develop a behavior expectations matrix for each of our schools' settings. This helps describe what each of the core values looks like in that setting. These expectations will be taught through direct instruction, modeling, and role playing.

At LMS, we have implemented a system of reinforcement for all students demonstrating Cardinal Pride. LMS staff members give a Cardinal Pride coupon to the students who are "caught" following Cardinal Pride behavior expectations in both classroom and non-classroom settings. At the end of the week, these coupons are deposited in a bin, and on Friday, we announce winners of the drawings. Weekly winners receive a small prize (candy bar, cardinal pride key chain, etc), monthly winners receive a larger one (movie passes, gift certificates).

When a student forgets and does not follow Cardinal Pride, rather than give negative feedback, we use this time as an opportunity to redirect/reteach the appropriate Cardinal Pride behavior to that sudent. Sometimes, if the behavior is consistent, staff may issue a reminder ticket. These tickes are used to gather data to see if the student needs to be given support to meet LMS Cardinal Pride expectations.
