Read for the Gold!
Lakeland Elementary is so excited to announce March is Reading Month, "Read for the Gold!"
Check you students’ Friday Folder for your March is Reading Month packet. In the packet you will find; an informational sheet, calendar, and reading log. Our goal is to read 150,000 minutes as a school! Each student will log their minutes and will have the opportunity to achieved bronze, silver, or gold status. All medal recipients will receive an ice cream treat. If we meet our schoolwide goal, every student will receive a free book to keep, and the top boy and girl in each grade level will receive two books. The contest runs from March 1-28.
The Public Health Code requires the health department to offer free vision and hearing screenings in the schools. The purpose of the program is early identification of vision and hearing problems. 4th Graders will have their hearing checked; 5th Graders will have their vision checked.
Vision: Children are screened for visual acuity, farsightedness, ability to use both eyes together, and symptoms of eye problems. If your child is unable to pass the vision screening, you will receive a letter in the mail to take to your eye doctor.
Hearing: Children will be given a preliminary screening with an audiometer - a special instrument designed to test hearing. Children who fail the screening are given a more detailed screening at a later date. If your child fails the second screening, you will receive a letter in the mail.
- 4th Graders will have their hearing checked on Monday, March 15 and Tuesday, March 16.
- 5th Graders will have their vision screened on Thursday, March 18 and Friday, March 19.
If you wish to opt out of the hearing screening, please contact the school office by Friday, March 12.
It has been great having both Red Team and White Team in the building four days a week. If you are considering returning your student to in-person learning for 4th quarter, please call the office by Wednesday, March 24th. We look forward to the last quarter in our new building!
