    2019-20 Teacher Requests

Teacher request forms for the 2019-20 school year will be available in the front office from March 8th-29th. Parents must pick up forms in the office, and absolutely no requests will be accepted after March 29th. We believe strongly in involving parents in the education of their child(ren) and are happy to accept requests. However, please know teacher requests are not a guarantee your child will be placed in a specific teacher's classroom. Creating balanced classes that allow all children to learn to the best of their ability is our first priority. Also, please know staffing (teachers teaching a certain grade level) can change before school begins in the fall.

Kids Read Now & District Library News

We are excited to offer Kids Read Now (KRN) to our students again this summer! This month, students will be given the opportunity to choose (9) books of interest to have sent to them over the summer, serving as a motivator to read while school is out of session for summer break. Teachers will provide you with information about KRN at our Celebration of Learning at Max Larsen on May 13th from 6-7 PM. Please plan to join us to learn more about this wonderful program and see the learning that has taken place this year...It will be FUN!!!

The KRN program complements the Branch District Library's Summer Reading Program. We encourage students' participation in both, as all KRN books will count towards the Library's summer reading logs to earn great prizes like Fair tickets, grand prizes, and other cool items! For more info about the Library's program, please call 517-278-2341 Ext. 198. They will also have a table at the Celebration of Learning on May 13th!

Also, there will be a parent packet sent home today for Kids Read Now. This will only be sent home to Kindergarten and 1st Grade students. The packet contains different books that your child will be choosing from to receive over the summer, so you can look them over with your child. The very last page is a contact form. This will need to be completed, signed by a parent, and returned to school by March 29th so there is sufficient time to register all of our students for books.

A special thank you to Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary for their presentation for March Is Reading Month and their generous coupons!

    Book Fair Top Sales

As our book fair came to an end, the classes with the most sales were welcome to pick out 5 book each for their classroom libraries. The winning classes are as follows:

    • 1st Grade: Miss Brokus
    • Kindergarten: Mrs. Uetrecht
    • Young Fives: Ms. Smith

Congratulations! Thank you for everyone’s help!

    March is Reading Month

For the entire month of March, we are celebrating reading. This year's theme is DINOSAURS! Every morning we will have a mystery reader giving classrooms the opportunity to win a free book for their classroom library. Also, please refer to the other calendar previously sent home for special activities planned for the school and classrooms, including a few dress-up days!

    ZONAR Bus Safety Program

CCS has purchased ZONAR for our Transportation Department, which includes an electronic verification of school bus safety inspections, bus GPS systems, and ZPass - a system for us to know when a student has entered and/or exited a school bus. The program keeps attendance of bus riders in the district's database for safety. ZPass has already been initiated at Lakeland and Jefferson Elementary Schools and has been working well. A parent memo was sent with students last week to share additional information, as we look to begin implementation at Max Larsen soon!

    Volunteer Forms

Please be sure a completed background check is on file for anyone planning to join field trips this spring.
